I don't like halloween at all.
Not one little bit in fact.
But I do love to decorate.
And I do love to craft and make stuff.
So in that mindset, Halloween isn't so bad and it does kick off the decorating frenzy that is the holidays.
A couple of years ago I bought some little rectangular blocks of wood at a craft shop and some people-ish shaped pieces and after a few hours the girls and I, mainly Rosie and I had sawed, sanded and painted a spooky halloween town. I store all the little pieces in a tin and it has become a favourite moment that I just love when I take off the lid each year and look at all the designs within.
Yesterday I decided we were lacking in the decor department so I ran to Joanns and picked up some cheesecloth and little polystyrene balls and voila, some ghosts were born.
You can keep your scary Halloween and I'll celebrate with a cute hallo-weenie

Halloween
Halloween is probably my least favourite holiday. If somehow the day slipped by and we totally forgot to "celebrate" I would quite fine with that.
I am scarred from my childhood with regard to dressing up in costumes and absolutely hate them. Add to that the whole private school uniform and having to wear your hat when in uniform and out in public and hell to the no, thanks. My children and the rest of the United States believe that dressing up is the best thing ever, sob sob so I feign enthusiasm, and we find a costume. Due to having friends and clients with older kiddos I have a dress up box to rival any costume store and have furnished costumes to the girls friends on many occasions.
This year Lily said she didn't think she would dress up and Rosie had no idea what she wanted to be. We dragged out the big old trunk and she waded through it, maybe this, maybe this. Finally I said, how about we go to Target? Child, unlike her sister, has never had a new costume. That nearly worked but they only had the boy version so off to the Halloween store.
This year a little girl was so very very excited to be Hermione Granger
She loves the Harry Potter series. even though it scares her silly.
Happy Halloweenie.
First time in 8 yrs that I haven't graced my Halloween posts with 2 girls. gulp. one is growing up.

a project for rosie
Last year as we packed away any decorations from any holiday I would put most of them aside and give them to the women's shelter. We had way too many and frankly I didn't care for most of them, they were just tacky and yuck.
As I was reading Lil Blu Boo a week or so ago I realised I needed to do her Halloween project with Rosie. She gave a full tutorial. If it were up to me I wouldn't have followed it step by step I would have walked my own path but Rosie is 9 and she follows directions well!! (sometimes).
I have to add that my Michaels didn't have anything listed, not even the paint colours so we dashed all over town and went to various stores. Thankfully as you know I have a massive spray paint collection so that was lucky.
I love how this turned out and even Lily got involved and painted a couple of pieces herself. Rosie has chosen a tin to keep everything in and is looking forward to seeing it again and again.
I might have to plead temporary insanity on this one:

a Halloween tree. OMG I love it. I already had the tree and who could resist those little pumpkins? If it didn't make me so happy I might just be ashamed. |

hallloween and pumpkins
Yes, yes, I am fully aware that all that nonsense was ages ago but I am all behind and after blogging for almost a decade I just cannot miss documenting Halloween.
I do not care for Halloween I do not care for scary things at all, in fact I like Valentines day, with love and hearts and all things beautiful but this day is not about that. BOO. Thankfully my big girl announced this year that she doesn't care for Halloween either. She chose to dress as a hippie and with the help of my brother pulled it off rather well. Even though it was a non uniform day they still have to adhere to a certain code which includes no open toed shoes so her strappy sandals had to be switched for a brown suede shoe.
Rosie went dressed as a vampire......sort of thing. She just raided our costume box and put 3 costumes together and announced I want these. Nothing that Lily said could persuade her differently. Hah, that's my girl. Nothing about Rosie matches, ever. As much as it makes my brain itch I have learnt to love it and I embrace it and encourage it but believe me it was very very hard and I still fail at it.
and as this is a double post..............
the night before Halloween Lily was out with friends so I took Rosie to the pumpkin patch. It was a bit of an, oh my gosh moment, as I realized Lily is now too big to do this anymore, WAHHHHHHHH.
I'm catching up!

This was her practice run as she was choosing costumes. I love how she thought this would be a great idea. It got tamed down however before Halloween. |
My detail oriented child even hippified her nails. She spends hours on her nails so I shouldn't have been surprised |
Spiderella, the Vampire |
scary stuff |
Love Peace and Lily |
I honestly don't think this would have been half as great without Colin. |

halloweenie
I'm not much of a fan of Halloween. I NEVER dress up, EVER. I think I shared that story and I don't let the kids go house to house as I don't even know my immediate neighbours after 8 years let alone the ones down the block. We like to sit outside and dish out the candy but as soon as the first scary mask comes by the girls both get terrified and that is when I turn off all the outside lights and we retreat to the safety of my bed. This year Sally and Andy were here but the masks were still scary so it was still over quite fast.
Sally and Andy left for a cruise today. tears from a certain child, you can guess. They will be gone all week. Sigh.
