and then this happened

I'm about to be the parent of a high school student. Time is flying by. I always knew that I wanted kiddies and somehow always pictured them teeny tiny. HAH.

They grow.

Yesterday we went to the beach and I took one photo, yes that was all

When I got home I looked at it and this is what I saw:
The first time I ever took my 2 children to the beach
Rosie hated it with all of her heartI

In reality, this is the photo I took.  Time stands still for no man (or Mama)
I wouldn't change a minute of it but I do wish it would all slow down and here is the further proof that the Pickle was not a fan of sand
Seriously the most pathetic face ever.
Times have changed now she loves it and hates to leave

time

Time seems like an appropriate heading for this post, as in, it's about time I posted but that isn't where I am going with it.

Time flies, is more how I am thinking right now.

As you know I am not one to keep things. Very little holds sentimental value to me, very very little. I capture everything I need in my mind and that is what I carry with me, everything else is stuff and just adds clutter. The girls on the other hand want to keep everything. If it were up to them nothing would get tossed. ever. I try and understand their mindset, truly I do but I cannot comprehend it.

That said, yesterday we were sorting through their wardrobes as both have been on a growing spree and I came across these tops in Rosies closet.

Smart and sassy
I love recess
I loved these shirts from the day they were given to Lily. They are from Gap Kids, a long long time ago and are the softest, thickest cotton, imaginable. Lily wore them to death until she could no longer fit into them and they were deemed a definite hand me down for Rose. Rosie also then wore them to death as they are perfect for our coldest Florida winter days.

With a huge sob, I annouce the end of the road for these two. They are to small for Rosie. I announced that they would not be thrown away, given to charity or handed down, these will be saved.

Why you ask?

Because they were hand me downs from the Sista from another mista. These two shirts used to belong to and fit these two beautiful girlies.

All grown up and a soldier in the Israeli army
All grown up and a college student in her 3rd year.
Hard to imagine them small enough to wear those shirts!
Where does the time go?

oh my

she takes my breath away

Quite a few months ago Lily received a very formal invitation in the mail. She was so excited and had been impatiently awaiting it's arrival. She immediately filled out the RSVP card and pooped it back in the mailbox.

How could it be that my 12 year old was invited to a formal evening. Where the heck has the time gone. Although Lily is in 7th grade she takes two classes with the 8th grade and she truly seems to fit more with the 8 graders regarding maturity than she does with her grade. Jenny was turning 15 and invited Lily to join her celebration. I know Jenny and her family and had no qualms whatsoever about her going.

Up until this point Lily has only gone to one other  teenagery party at a kids home so she was really giddy about it. Then when I mentioned her needing a very special dress, she flipped. oh and shoes, wait till you see the shoes.

Dress shopping was a little difficult as she is so tiny and most of the long dresses totally overwhelmed her teeny tiny frame. She of course loved them and when I told her they were all just to much for her she was sad. I told her she needed short and she was crushed. Then I told her she needed high heels and she was back on board.

She has bloody great big large feet so shoe shopping now puts us in the adult section so as you can imagine Macys shoe department made her head spin and her eyes glaze over. ANd when the sales chap found her a HIGH heel with a peep toe she was speechless and gave me a look like that said, really mum, can I? I told her to try it on.

On a  Saturday night,  about 2 weeks ago, Rosie and I dropped someone, who slightly resembled Lily, at a banquet hall. We sat in the car together as she waited to see familiar faces entering the hall. My always head strong and sure child was having a little case of nerves. She looked amazing, felt amazing but needed a friend to walk in with. One of her teachers pulled into the next parking space with her daughter in the car so we all walked in together. I told her if she wanted me to just ring and I would be there in a heartbeat.

With that we left and headed to the airpost to pick up cousin Doris. The invitation stated 6.pm-midnight and at 11.30 I hopped in the car for the 15 minute drive. I was pulling intot he car park when she called to say come get me.

She had a ball.

growing up

I deleted yesterdays post. I was angry and it was very negative. Something I have kept off of here the entire time is negativity and anger. I don't want the kids reading it when they are older so bye bye. I also believe that you get back what you put out in to the universe and I don't want THAT coming back even worse than it already is.

Moving on.

When I "discovered" that headboard for Lily it set into motion a whole chain of events that I certainly didn't see coming. At first she didn't even want a headboard (probably due to it coming off of a trash pile, hehe) then she loved it so much that she wanted to change things around in her room.

I finished painting it yesterday,  her room I mean! Damn headboard LOL.

It's the same colour but she wanted to move some shelves and then we discussed painting the shelves to add a little wow and by the time all the shelves were moved, in addition to the letters and stuff we moved for the headboard, there was so much patching to be done and touch up work and I knew the paint wouldn't match after 4 years so I just re-did the whole room. It was looking a litle shabby anyway so now it is all fresh again.

It looks a little more teenagery and a little less tween. Gulp.

Her brighter shelves. All shelves used to be the same colour as the lower wall. The noticeboard is also a re-do. It belonged to my clients daughter and was yellow and blue and said Tiffany on it.
Sock monkey collection
I just re-did that socket. Oh yes I did, the junction box had come out of the wall.. I just re did it myself yesterday.
Her medal rack that she made
The mirrors are pink and orange and the shelf is pink.
Lily is becoming quite handy. I handed her the plaster and said, get to it. She loves helping with DIY. Once it was dry she sanded it down. After the first few times she even mastered cleaning up!

A special thank you to my BIL Andy for sending me home from England with raw plugs and drill bits and to my daddy for kitting me out with some tools. Between the 2 of them the job was easy.
